Outcomes and Successes

Background

The Summer Youth Employment Programs (SYEP) offered in Illinois has a history of success because of:

  • Dedicated providers
  • Committed employers
  • Technology (Illinois workNet Portal) supports the facilitation of the program.

The Illinois workNet portal was first used during the 2009 WIA/ARRA-funded Summer Youth Employment Program. The success was recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor and was the catalyst to support Illinois' work experience programs. Each year the program has been offered through Illinois workNet, customer-driven technology and content enhancements have been made to enhance the program guidance, training, and tools. These tools have been made available to partner agencies in order to leverage technology and training resources.
