Observed annually on June 19th, Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. This day commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. In 2021, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed legislation making Juneteenth an official state holiday. This holiday will be known as National Freedom Day, and the law took effect on January 1, 2022.
