    Juneteenth 2022

Observed annually on June 19thJuneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. This day commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. Last year, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed legislation making Juneteenth an official state holiday. This holiday will be known as National Freedom Day and the law took effect on January 1, 2022. To learn more about Juneteenth and how you can celebrate around the state check out: https://www.enjoyillinois.com/travel-illinois/a-day-to-reflect-juneteenth/.

During this time, we look back and celebrate the contributions that African Americans have made not only to our history and culture but also our workforce. It is important to recognize the contributions and influence African Americans have had in different industries in the past and present.
