Going through a Layoff? Illinois workNet is there for you!

If you are one of the people from an Illinois company that just went through a lay-off, have no fear, Illinois workNet is here! We have tools and resources, and a Step Guide to help you through the process to find a new job.

Let’s look at a few of the resources.

When we go through a layoff, it can be a huge blow to our ego and our lives. Our first thoughts might be - how will I pay the bills?  Will I get another job? What do I do about… and the list goes on. Illinois workNet has channeled a listing of resources and articles to help you through each of the steps.

First thing you need to do is figure out if you want to look for a job similar to what you had or look into a new career field.  Once you’ve decided what you want to do, select one of the options pictured below.

Find a Job or Advance in Your Current Career Field

So, let’s say you just want to try to find another job in the same career area that you were currently working. Pick the picture on the right side.

The next step in the process is all about finding the right resources to help you through the time between jobs. We provide links to services you need, like unemployment insurance, health insurance plans, and housing assistance for mortgage or rent payments after a layoff. Another tool is the Monthly Expenses Worksheet which will help you manage your money.

When you were working, you may have taken your children to daycare. Once you were laid off you may have had to cut that expense, but what do you do when you need to go on interviews or work part-time?  Illinois workNet has links to resources to help you with things like child-care, public assistance, and transportation. Take a look at those resources on Illinois workNet’s Support Service pages.
