Employer Engagement Pilot Project, NEG OJT Review and Recommendations Report Available

Illinois workNet has posted the Employer Engagement Pilot Project, NEG OJT Review and Recommendations provided by the Alliance for Illinois Manufacturing (AIM) to the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Resources page. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 places new emphasis on employer engagement and work-based learning strategies such as: On-the-Job-Training,  paid internships and paid work experience.  DCEO’s Office of Employment and Training recently worked with several local workforce areas on a National Emergency Grant designed to nudge new hiring by promoting WIA-supported OJT.  As part of that effort, the Alliance for Illinois Manufacturing provided significant help in linking employers to the local areas and facilitated dozens of OJT placements at a myriad of manufacturers.

Following that experience, the Alliance developed a step-by-step guide to OJT that includes detailed descriptions of strategies that worked plus recommendations for improving future OJT efforts.  Many of the strategies, especially those related to employer engagement, are also applicable to internships and paid work experience. Their report is provided as a resource to all workforce system partners to further their efforts to link jobseekers to appropriate occupations and employers.
