The City of Chicago Department of Human Resources will be available to provide resources, guidance and assistance to City of Chicago laid off workers.

The Department of Human Resources, in cooperation with other state and city agencies, is hosting a series of  Resource/Job Fairs.

Free Tax Preparation for Dislocated City of Chicago Workers:

City of Chicago laid off workers may be eligible to get their taxes prepared for free.  You qualifiy if you lost your job with the City and are currently unemployed.  The Center for Economic Progress will prepare taxes for free on Saturday, February 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Malcolm X College and Saturday, February 14 at the Illinois Institute of Technology from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Please bring the following items:  All W-2s and 1099s, Social Security cards or ITINs for all family members, a copy of last year's tax return, bank account number and routing number, and valid photo I.D.  After January 5, 2009 call (312) 630-0248 for additional locations and information or visit  www.economicprogress.org External link opens in a new window

  • Low Income Energy Efficient Residential Retrofit Program

    More than $213,000 in grants will help existing low-income homeowners replace items such as refrigerators, furnaces, lighting, dishwashers and air conditioners with energy-efficient models.

    Legislation approved last year created funding for programs and incentives through money from ComEd and Ameren to reduce electrical energy usage and demand by company customers.
