Electro-Motive Laid Off Worker Assistance

Employees of Electro - Motive!   Workshops were made available to you under the Workforce Investment Act and were designed to provide you with information to assist with Re-employment Services, Job Training Opportunities, Support Services, Unemployment Insurance Benefits information and more. Because you have lost your job due to no fault of your own, Employees of Electro - Motive are highly encouraged to take advantage of the valuable information shared during each workshop. In order to receive additional services you must visit one of the local centers near you. For a listing of these centers in your local workforce area, please refer to the brochure handed out at the workshops or refer to the illinoisworkNet home page.

Recommended Things You Can Do Before You Are Laid Off

 
  • Attend a pre-layoff Rapid Response Workshop. Individuals are highly encouraged to attend this workshop to help prepare them for your next steps.
  • Participate with a Dislocated Worker Program Application Session to determine eligibility for additional benefits and services. To participate with this session, attendance at a pre-layoff Help for Laid Off Worker Assistance Workshop is recommended. If individuals do not sign up at the pre-layoff workshops they will need to contact the Illinois workNet Center for instructions and to register for a session.
  • Review all of your current benefits such as life insurance, health insurance, and pension fund in order to locate similar benefits within your budget. Follow the links below to learn more about:
  • Locate workshops to help you prepare for a job or career change and job fairs by searching events in your area.
  • Use Find a Resource Room to locate places where public computers are available for resume preparation and job searching.
  • Register with Illinois Skills Match to find job openings that match your skills.
  • Prepare a resume and search for job listings in Illinois.
  • Complete skills and interesst self-assessments to help you identify potential career paths.
  • Enhance your skills and begin by researching training programs both locally and throughout Illinois and identify training programs offered by Certified WIA Providers.

Recommended Things That You Can Do After You Are Laid Off

  • Connect to counseling - locate needed services by category.
  • Research other benefits and services that may be available to assist in your transition to re-employment.

    Bilingual Parent Resource Center

    Are you a bilingual or immigrant parent of a Chicago Public School student?  If so, visit the Bilingual Parent Resource Center of the Office of Language and Cultural Education, Chicago Public Schools.  The Bilingual Parent Resource Center offers many free services including:

    - ESL Classes

    - Parent Workshops

    -Leadership Development Training

    -Computer Classes

    WIA Youth Programs
    CYS logo Chicago Department of Children and Youth Service (CYS) provide services for Chicago's youths and their families. CYS programs include Early Childhood programs from infancy to age 5, Out-of-school programs for ages 6 to 18, Resources for Parents and Caregivers, and the Born learning Initiative.     IL Home Weatherization Assistance Program
    The Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program External link opens in a new window (IHWAP) is designed to help low income residents save fuel and money, while increasing the comfort of their homes. 

    Weatherization services are provided by local community action agencies or not-for-profit agencies throughout the state. You may contact the agency provider in your area External link opens in a new window to apply for weatherization services.

    Department of Human Services DHS helps Illinois families achieve self-sufficiency, independence and health to the maximum extent possible.  Visit the IDHS web site. External link opens in a new window

  • Low Income Energy Efficient Residential Retrofit Program

    More than $213,000 in grants will help existing low-income homeowners replace items such as refrigerators, furnaces, lighting, dishwashers and air conditioners with energy-efficient models.

    Legislation approved last year created funding for programs and incentives through money from ComEd and Ameren to reduce electrical energy usage and demand by company customers.
