BP America Laidoff Worker Assistance

With an Illinois workNet Account  you can:

  •  create and store resumes,
  • use the Illinois job search tool,
  • view local employment information throughout the state,
  • see what other services and resources are available,
  • and much more. 

If you have an Illinois workNet account, you are ready to begin.

Free Introduction to Illinois workNet classes are available at the workNet DuPage Career Center, 2525 Cabot Drive, Suite 302, Lisle, every Thursday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Please call to make a reservation, 630-955-2030.  A Service Card is required to attend any events held at the workNet DuPage Career Center. Please stop by our Reception Desk to complete a short form to obtain your free Service Card.

Before you are laid off:

  • Attend a pre-layoff workshop (presented by  DuPage County Workforce Development Division Staff)  to learn about services and resources available to you.   • Review all of your current benefits such as life insurance, health insurance, and pension fund in order to locate similar benefits within your budget. Follow the links below to learn more about:

  • Register with Illinois Skills Match External link opens in a new window External link opens in a new window to find job openings that match your skills.
  •  Using the Illinois workNet portal  prepare a resume and search for job listings in Illinois, complete a skill and interest self-assessment to help you identify potential career paths, and  begin to research training programs both locally and throughout Illinois.

After you are laid off:

Use Illinois workNet to:

  • File for Unemployment Insurance Benefits (under "Services" tab on Illinois workNet home page).
  • Connect to counseling - locate needed services by category.
  • Research other benefits that may be available to assist in your transition to re-employment.
