Explore Job Information and use this graphic organizer to brainstorm:
  • Your career choice,
  • Occupation titles,
  • Illinois schools that offer training and education programs for the occupations
  • Training and education program admission facts
  • Helpful information, and
  • Resources.

Instructions: In each section, write information that can help you make a career choice.

Step 2: Click here to Explore Job Information Link opens in a new window
Step 3: Search for a job using a key word or by career area.
Step 4: From the search results, click on the job you want.
Step 5: Click on Training Programs.

My Career Choice: Explore Job Information and write down one career area that interests you. (Example: Teacher)


 

Occupation Titles: Choose three or more occupations in that career and write down those that interest you. (Example: Adult and Vocational Education Teachers and Teacher Assistant)

Illinois schools that offer programs for the occupations: For each occupation, find schools in your area that prepare you for it. (Example: Illinois State University (ISU) has an Education program)


 

Program Admission Fact: Record information that you need to know about being admitted into the program. (Example: At ISU new students are required to submit a $40 nonrefundable application fee or apply for a fee waiver. )

Helpful Information Record information that you may need in the future. (Example: The Illinois Virtual Campus connects you to thousands of distance education courses plus online degree and certificate programs offered by Illinois colleges and universities.)


 

Resources Record important information about the career, occupations, schools, or other. (Example: Information about teacher accreditation can be found at the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). )



 

Remember: Look for scholarships and financial aid information when you are getting ready to select a training program.
