Maintaining a Safe and Healthy Work Environment

It is your job to read and understand your employer's policies and procedures manual and then to follow your employer's rules and regulations. Make sure that you know where to find the manual, and check it when you have questions. If you can't find an answer, ask your supervisor. Careless mistakes can be costly for you and your employer.

Other tips for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment:

  • Identify health and safety information.
  • Follow health and safety rules, policies and procedures for the company.
  • Learn how to use the equipment that you will need for your job.
  • Identify energy-saving practices and policies.
  • Know where to go and what to do during an emergency (fire, tornado, chemical spill, etc.).
  • Keep a clean work area.
  • Identify unsafe substances in the workplace.
