  The Friday Job Club is a New Program that meets every Friday from 10:00am to 11:00am, in the Large Conference Room located at the Illinois WorkNet 20 Center at 1300 S. 9th Street, Springfield, IL 62703. • Local 669 Sprinkler Fitters Apprenticeship

  Local 669 is conducting a five year apprenticeship program in all or part of 46 states for Sprinkler Fitters, specializing in fire protection.  The apprenticeship entry-level rate is based on a percentage of the Journeyman rate of $36.14 per hour.  Previous experience in construction or related college or military experience may enhance the entry-level wage.
  The minimum qualifications for entry into the Program are:
  1.  Must be the age of 18 or over.
  2.  Must be a high school gradueate or have G.E.D.
  3.  Must be physically fit to perform the work of the trade.
  4.  Must have military discharge under other than dishonorable conditions, if applies.
  Applications will be accepted five days per week, except holidays, 52 weeks per year between the hours of 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. at the contractors/employers address.  All completed applications will be held on file until there is a need to interview applicants for expected opportunities.
  Applications must be completed 45 days prior to interview date.  All applicants must provide a copy of their birth certificate, high school diploma or G.E.D.  Certificate and Military Discharge (Form DD-214) if applicable.

• Monthly Veteran Job Readiness Workshop

  The Veteran Staff of the Springfield Illinois Department of Employment Security office, located at 1300 South Ninth Street in Springfield, will host a Veteran Job Readiness Worksho the third Thursday of each month in the main conference room.  Topics covered will include:  Assessing Skills, How People Look for Work, Networking, Job Search Techniques, Employer Research & Contact, Applications, Resumes, Interviews and Follow-Ups.

  Serve Illinois

  The Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service has developed the Serve Illinois website so you can easily find information on AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and the Learn and Serve Program. • Spell Check Your Work Online

  SpellChecker.net allows you to paste in your work and then run a spell check or type your work directly into the spell checker for potential corrections as you write. This tool is useful for creating resumes, proofing emails or blogs, and any other work which may be presented to a potential employer.



• Senior Corps

  Senior Corps is a volunteer program for adults over age 55. The program assists seniors in finding volunteer opportunities through the Foster Grandparent Program, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Senior Companion Program. By volunteering with Senior Corps, senior adults across the country are making a difference in their community every day. • Youth Service Providers

  Workforce Investment Act programs are offered to youth between the ages of 14-21. Youth services providers offer programs to assist young people in reaching individual academic goals (high school diploma recovery or GED) and developing basic job skills as they make the transition from being older youth to young adults. All WIA services for youth are offered at no cost to the participant.

  All Local Workforce Area’s have at least one provider of services to this group of people. The statewide WIA Youth Services Providers List gives the provider’s name, contact info, city in which the provider is located, and a brief listing of the services provided.
