  • WIA Certified Training Providers
    Find a training provider or program within the State of Illinois that is certified under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) to provide training and education to adults and dislocated workers.
  • Find a Resource Room
    Find a site where trained staff members are able to assist you in finding resources for your job search, job preparation, and work support such as financial aid, child care and much more.  This is a free service for Illinois residents.

    Connects laid-off workers to assistance resources.
  • The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) External link opens in a new window reduces an employer’s cost of doing business, while helping those most in need gain valuable work experience. This IRS tax credit program provides savings to employers who hire people from certain target groups, including welfare recipients, veterans, youth and ex-felons. The Illinois Department of Employment Security is the “designated local agency” responsible for issuing the federal WOTC tax credit certification. Click here to find IDES location near you.

    Become a Teacher in Chicago
    The Chicago Teaching Fellows Program is calling on outstanding individuals to become teachers in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and positively impact the academic achievement or our city's children.  Chicago Teaching Fellows focuses on recruiting a diverse group of successful professionals and recent college graduates who will use their knowledge, experience, and records of achievement to postively change the lives of students in Chicago. No previous experience or coursework in education is necessary to apply.

    After intensive preparation during the summer and once securing a teaching position with a CPS school, Chicago Teaching Fellows teach in the fall 2010 while pursuing their initial teaching certificate.

    Benefits of the program include:

    -A streamlined application and selection process
    -A fast-paced, thoroughly comprehensive and intensive pre-service training program
    -The opportunity to join a cohort of other like-minded professionals all dedicated  and committed to improving our city's public schools
    -A pathway to earn your teaching certificate while making a direct impact on student achievement as a teacher

    Mather Lifeways: Ways to Age Well
    Mather Lifeways

    Mather Lifeways, through their Mather's More Than a Cafe sites, offers computer skills training for adults over 50. These courses include the basics of computing (composing basic text documents, surfing the internet, and sending an e-mail) and instruction in the use of programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. There are 4 levels of instruction which meet for 2 hours a week for 4 weeks. You can also attend a seminar on setting up and using an Illinois workNet account for job placement.
