Dental Health Careers in Demand: Excellent Pay and Short Training Programs

Description

Two careers within the field of health care that show great employment potential are Dental Assistant and Dental Hygienist.  The short training period and excellent pay rate make these attractive and rewarding career options.

Labor market information shows that, in Illinois, there will be annually: 

  • 810 openings for Dental Assistants.  With either on-the-job training or with one year of post high school program, a dental assistant can earn a median wage of $11.10 per hour in Illinois.  
  • 110 openings for Dental Hygienists.  With a twenty-month Associate’s Degree program, one can expect a starting wage of $42,040 with the median pay in Illinois of $28.35 per hour.
