What is a College Admission Standardized Test?
Most universities require applicants to give their ACT, SAT or GRE score on their college application. High scores help improve your chance of getting into a good college. They can also lead to tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships.
People of all ages and grade levels can take the ACT. This includes students in grades 6 – 12 and high school graduates. ACT results are accepted by all 4-year colleges and universities in the U.S. The ACT tests on: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. The ACT Plus Writing exam includes the four subject area tests plus a 30-minute Writing Test. A maximum score is a 36.
The SAT is usually taken by high school juniors and seniors. It tells students how well they use the skills and knowledge they have gained inside and outside of the classroom. Including how they think, solve problems, and communicate.
The SAT Reasoning Test has three sections: Math, Critical Reading, and Writing. Scores on each section range from 200 to 800. The scores always being a multiple of 10. The SAT Essay is scored 1-6 with six being the best score.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is used as a screening tool for graduate students. The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and critical thinking. The GRE also measures analytical writing skills. Each GRE Test Section has a possible score between 200 and 800. The GRE exam has 3 graded sections. The Verbal Section has 30 questions and takes 30 minutes. The Quantitative (Math) Section has 28 questions and takes 45 minutes. And the Analytical (Logic) Section has 35 questions and takes 60 minutes. The GRE Subject Tests measure undergraduate achievement in 8 specific fields of study.
