What is a College Admission Standardized Test?

Most universities require applicants to report their ACT, SAT or GRE score on their application for college admission. Not only do high scores improve your chance of getting into a good college, they can also lead to tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships.

What are the ACT & SAT exams?

 

ACT Exam
People of all ages and grade levels are eligible to take the ACT. This includes students in grades 6 – 12 and high school graduates. ACT results are accepted by all 4-year colleges and universities in the U.S. The ACT consists of subject area tests in: English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. The ACT Plus Writing exam includes the four subject area tests plus a 30-minute Writing Test. A maximum score is a 36.

SAT Exam
The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors. It tells students how well they use the skills and knowledge they have attained in and outside of the classroom—including how they think, solve problems, and communicate. The SAT Reasoning Test has three sections: Math, Critical Reading, and Writing. Scores on each section range from 200 to 800, with scores always being a multiple of 10. The SAT Essay is scored 1-6 with six being the best score.

What is the GRE exam?

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is used as a screening tool for graduate students. The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and critical thinking and analytical writing skills. Each GRE Test Section has a possible score between 200 and 800. The GRE exam has 3 graded sections: Verbal Section: 30 questions in 30 minutes, Quantitative (Math) Section: 28 questions in 45 minutes, Analytical (Logic) Section: 35 questions in 60 minutes. The GRE Subject Tests gauge undergraduate achievement in 8 specific fields of study.
