Illinois Youth Employment for the SummerEarn money through September 30th. Get work experience!

The Illinois YES (Youth Employment for the Summer) program provides temporary work for eligible young adults who are:
  • 14-24 years old,
  • unemployed and underemployed,
  • low-income parents and young adults

The YES program provides an opportunity for eligible 14-24 year olds to earn a paycheck through September 30, 2010. All Illinois YES program placements must occur by September 13, 2010.

Benefits offered by Illinois YES include:
  • 30 - 40 hours of work per week: Click here to see typical wages.
    When youth go back to school, they can drop down to the number of hours per week that meets their needs/schedule, if not able to meet the 30 hour work week requirement - as authorized by the Department of Human Services (DHS).

  • Connections with employers looking for workers
  • Additional career experience and job skills
  • Participants may be eligible for additional support services and have access to child care which is provided through Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R).

Illinois YES will be administered by Local Workforce Investment Areas (LWIAs) and service providers throughout the state.

Step 2: Review Eligibility Information

See if you are eligible for the YES program using the Eligibility Checklist.
If you are, learn how to apply for the limited number of available positions (based on a first-come-first-served basis and meeting eligibility requirements).

To participate in Illinois YES youth must be:
  • A 14-24 years old Illinois resident
  • A parent or caretaker relative of a minor child Link opens in a new window
  • A noncustodial parent of a minor child
    or
  • Living with a parent or caretaker relative Link opens in a new window and
  • Legally present and authorized to work in the United States
Youth cannot be listed on the Sex Offender Registry External link opens in a new window and the household income Link opens in a new window must be below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. External link opens in a new window

If youth meet these requirements, Use the Illinois YES Eligibility Checklist to determine eligibility for the Youth Employment for the Summer program.

If you believe you, or a youth, are eligible for the Youth Employment for the Summer Program, use the interactive map to find a participating location. Call and make an appointment to talk to an advisor, complete the Yes Eligibility Checklist and apply for Illinois YES.
