Create a Plan for Your Veterans Hiring Program

Use your company's mission to help you develop a strategy on how to incorporate veteran jobseekers in your recruitment efforts. Plan for results by establishing measurable goals for each part of your plan, and including specific roles and tasks for each member of your team.

Step 1: Become Familiar with the Benefits of Hiring Veterans

Step 2: Learn About Tax Incentives

Businesses may deduct up to $15,000 of the costs incurred each year for "qualified architectural and transportation barrier removal expenses" with the Transportation Tax Deduction (IRC Section 190) External link opens in a new window. The Work Opportunity Tax Credit can potentially be as much as $2,400 for each new adult hire; $4,800 for each new disabled veteran hire. Click on the Links Tab to learn more.

Step 3: Plan for Results

A basic planning template will get you thinking about the steps necessary to begin thinking about a Veterans hiring initiative. You might consider convening a team to help brainstorm, put thoughts and ideas on paper, identify needs and potential partners, note what is already in place and list questions. You may wish to meet monthly to ensure that action items are addressed in a timely manner.
