The Industry

The transportation and logistics industry is a large and rapidly growing component of the Illinois economy in all major regions. Thanks to its central geography and extensive infrastructure, Illinois is uniquely positioned to support the industry's continuing growth.

However, to remain competitive, the industry must meet the challenges posed by projected severe statewide shortages of qualified workers over the next ten years. These shortages will be at all levels ranging from transportation and distribution center managers to logistics professionals, including international logistics; from administrative and information technology support workers to truck drivers; from distribution center operators to machinery and transportation equipment maintenance workers.
