Nominations Open for Illinois Technology Competition “50 for the Future”
Top Regional Companies and Institutions Partner to Find Industry’s Best and Brightest Students
February 5, 2009 | CHICAGO – The Illinois Technology Foundation, a Chicago-based non-profit organization dedicated to fueling the technology talent and human capital pipeline through facilitated collaboration between academia and industry, has begun accepting nominations for 50 for the Future, an event honoring Illinois’ most promising technology students.
The event, now in its third year, is designed to provide students using technology in innovative ways a means to excel by connecting them with business leaders early in their academic careers. The program is open to candidates enrolled in institutions of higher learning throughout Illinois, and has this year, for the first time, been extended to Chicago public high school students as well.
Over 30 of the region’s top technology companies, supporting organizations, and institutions of higher learning have become involved in the competition, offering their C-level executives as judges.
“Innovative leaders like Baxter are always looking for the next great minds to change our industry for the better,” said Karenann Terrell, CIO for Baxter International Inc. and Co-Chair of 50 for the Future. “The Illinois Technology Foundation’s 50 for the Future makes it even easier to identify and foster this up-and-coming talent, so I’m thrilled to be on the front lines of their efforts.”
Nominees will be judged on their interest and demonstrated potential in the field of technology. All nominees will be given access to potential employers via roundtables, webinars, and one-on-one mentorship. Unique to the program is the way it rewards the top 50 competitors. The top 50 candidates will be honored at an event involving the competition’s judges and will form the core of a student advisory board helping to guide the year-long, industry-centric programming for all nominees.
“50 for the Future is designed to help bring awareness to the talent and creativity that resides within our region’s students,” said Karen Gordon, Executive Director for the Illinois Technology Foundation. “The collaboration with our partners has been staggering, and this year’s nominees stand to reap the rewards. We look forward to this year’s event and to helping each of our nominees take a big step forward with their careers.”
Submissions for nomination close on February 23.
