Special Accommodations

special accomodationsThe Illinois workNet® Portal and worksheets are setup to support the varying needs of individuals with disabilities. It is the responsibility of the Local Workforce Investment Areas (LWIA), Local Workforce Investment Boards (LWIB), and WIA Youth Providers to provide appropriate accommodations for those with disabilities. 




Cognitive Disability Accommodation Examples:

Standard Assistive Technology Products (Available in all Illinois workNet Centers): 

  • Adjustable Keyboard Tray: height-adjustable tray for individuals using wheelchairs or with ergonomic concerns
  • Trackball Mouse: simpler mouse for individuals who have limited dexterity
  • IntelliKeys Keyboard: enlarged keyboard for individuals with severely limited use of their hands
  • Closed Circuit Television: electronic magnifier for viewing printed materials
  • Large Monitor: 21-inch computer screen for individuals with mild to low-vision
  • Large-Print Keyboard Labels: adhesive labels that make keyboard keys easier to read
  • ZoomText Xtra: software that can magnify anything displayed on a computer screen
  • Home Page Reader: software that reads (most) Web pages aloud
  • OpenBook: computer-based system that can read printed materials aloud
  • Scanner: to be used with OpenBook
  • Headphones: to be used with ZoomText Xtra, Home Page Reader, and OpenBook
  • Talking Books Tape Player: tape player for special "talking book" tapes for individuals who are blind
  • Pocketalker: simple sound amplifier for individuals who are hard of hearing

  • Forearm Supports: swiveling forearm supports for individuals with weakness or other ergonomic needs
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking: software to enable individuals with physical disabilities to operate computers by voice
  • Hand-Held Magnifiers: lighted magnifying glasses for viewing printed materials
  • Ergonomic Desk Light: low-glare lamp for individuals with mild visual impairments
  • JAWS: powerful software that can read information on a computer screen for individuals who are blind
  • Brailler: printer that can be used to produce materials for individuals who are blind
  • Duxbury Braille Translator: software that prepares computer documents to be printed as Braille
  • Braille Labeler: simple tool to create adhesive Braille labels
  • Aurora: software that can help individuals with learning disabilities type and spell more quickly
  • WYNN: software that helps individuals with learning disabilities read computer, Web, and printed documents
  • Amplified Telephone: telephone designed to assist individuals who are hard of hearing by amplifying both the telephone ring and the sound of the incoming caller's voice
  • TTY Large Video Display: telecommunication device for individuals who are deaf which can be connected directly to a phone line or through an existing telephone by placing the receiver on the TTY's acoustic couplers
  • FM Amplification System: assistive listening system designed for use in meetings or presentations
  • QuickCam: standard Web camera with a digital zoom, built-in microphone, and high-quality VGA CCD sensor through which individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing can receive immediate interpreter services
  • Pocketalker: simple sound amplifier for individuals who are hard of hearing

  • Browsealoud - Browsealoud is a program that reads aloud the words on the Illinois workNet web site, highlighting the words as they are being read. Browsealoud is a tool for people who may find it difficult to read text online or for those who may have literacy problems and/or learning disabilities such as dyslexia. It is also a beneficial tool for those for whom English is a second language and may have trouble reading. Browsealoud allows you to "listen" to the contents of the web page you are viewing.   • Website Text – To change the text to be easier to read, increase or decrease text size by selecting “View” and then “Text Size” from your browser menu or by simultaneously clicking on “Ctrl +” or “Ctrl –."
  • Illinois workNet web pages are printer friendly. Click on the printer friendly view icon to show all the information for a printer friendly view.

    To print as large font in Internet Explorer 7:
    1. Increase the font size in your Internet browser.
    2. Select Print preview.
    3. Change selection "shrink to fit" to appropriate %.
    4. Change layout from portrait to landscape as needed.
    5. Select the print button and Select Adobe PDF as the printer.
    6. Save to your computer and print.
