Individuals with Disabilities, including veterans are getting good jobs as a result of WIA programs. This is because WIA programs are helping businesses reap the value of hiring individuals with disabilities, and connecting businesses to qualified job candidates.
Because of the hiring successes of Walgreens through disabilityworks, a leader in the food industry, the Compass Group worked with the WIA-funded disabilityworks program, to help them connect to and hire job candidates. Compass had access to a pool of pre-screened, job-ready applicants with disabilities with a desire to work in the food service industry. The hiring process was a success.
Two of the individuals with disabilities that Compass hired recently passed their six-month milestone on the job. One is an Air Force veteran employed at a Compass cafe in Schaumburg. This committed worker commutes from Chicago to his workplace to get to work on time each work day. The other has become an assistant manager. Both workers are stationed at fast-paced corporate restaurants, and have aggressively pursued feedback from their supervisors to achieve and maintain high performance.
Compass Group has increased its capacity to be among a group of proactive employers who understand that hiring veterans and individuals with disabilities brings benefits to the customers, workers, and the company.
